AI image prompt examples that actually work
Strong AI image prompts read like a tiny creative brief: subject, environment, light, color, lens or format, and style. Weak prompts stop at “cinematic, 8k, detailed”—they give the model too many equally likely directions.
Structure of a high-signal prompt
Start with who or what owns the frame, then place them in a setting. Add one or two lighting sentences (direction, softness, color temperature). Name materials and textures when they matter. Close with stylistic guardrails—film stock, painterly vs photographic, era—so the model does not drift.
Before / after thinking
Before: a bag of adjectives. After: a short stack of concrete cues tied to composition and mood. You can still iterate; you are just iterating from a prompt that already encodes the scene you liked.
Image → prompt as a starting point
When you have a reference but not the words, image-to-prompt turns pixels into language you can edit. Paste the draft into Midjourney, SDXL, or any tool you use—then adapt tokens to what that engine respects.
